Activate the product
Before you can build and run flows, AutoFlow has to be activated. Activation is done per company and goes through a short wizard. During the first activation for your tenant, the wizard also registers the tenant itself.
How licensing works, in short
- Tenant: your Business Central tenant (online) or the licence behind your installation (on-premises). Registered once.
- Company: every company in which you want to use AutoFlow is activated individually.
- Packages: features and the number of usable flows are unlocked through packages. A Free Tier is always available; trial covers premium features in sandboxes for 6 months; paid packages add capacity and features for production use.
You can always review or change packages later from the subscription management. The activation wizard is only concerned with getting you up and running.
Start the activation wizard
There are two common ways to open the wizard:
- From the role centre notification: after installation, any standard role centre shows a bar "AutoFlow is not yet activated" with a direct link to the wizard.
- From the Tell Me bar: search for AutoFlow Activation and pick the matching action.
The wizard then guides you through the steps below.
Step 1 — Register the tenant (first activation only)
This step only appears the first time an mse Software GmbH product is activated in this tenant. The wizard sends you through a short Microsoft sign-in (only once per tenant) to verify which AAD tenant the activation is for.
Business Central Online (SaaS)
- The wizard opens a Microsoft sign-in popup pointed at your AAD tenant.
- Sign in with any user account from that tenant — admin rights are not required for a regular user. The popup asks you to consent to mse365 AutoFlow Licensing reading your basic profile (your name, email, and the tenant id) so we can audit who completed the registration.
- After you confirm, the popup closes automatically and the activation wizard continues.
Some tenants disable user consent for third-party apps as a hardening measure. If sign-in returns an error like "Need admin approval" or AADSTS65001, the wizard shows a one-click consent link the user can forward to their AAD administrator. Once the administrator clicks the link and approves, every user in the tenant can run the wizard.
Business Central on-premises
The Microsoft sign-in step is skipped — instead the registration is tied to the licence serial number embedded in your installation. The wizard reads the serial and your Company Information automatically and finishes the registration without any further input.
Make sure the BC Server can reach licensing.mse365.de – see Network requirements for the full list of hosts AutoFlow needs.
Step 2 — Choose how to activate AutoFlow
You now decide whether this company should use a trial activation or a production activation.
Trial activation (sandbox only)
- Available only in sandbox environments.
- Unlocks all premium features for a 6-month trial period without any further steps.
- The trial counts once per tenant — after it starts you can activate AutoFlow in any number of additional sandboxes and companies during the same trial window, at no extra cost.
- No package selection and no checkout.
Pick this option to evaluate AutoFlow with the full feature set.
Production activation
- Available in production and sandbox environments.
- If another company in this tenant already uses a production activation, the wizard finishes immediately and opens the subscription management — no further input is required.
- On the first production activation, the wizard lets you pick the packages you want to buy.
Step 3 — Package selection (first production activation only)
The wizard shows a list of available packages, grouped by product line:
- Packages in the same product line are mutually exclusive — the tree view only lets you pick the highest tier of each line.
- The Free Tier is always pre-selected and cannot be removed.
- Packages from different product lines can be freely combined.
- Each row shows the package name, included flows, included features, and the price.
Select the packages you want, then continue.
Step 4 — Checkout (only when paid packages are selected)
If any paid package is in your selection, the wizard switches to the checkout:
- Partner or direct purchase: choose whether billing should run through one of your mse partners or directly with mse Software GmbH.
- Confirm company data: review the billing address, VAT ID (USt.-IdNr.), and the email address that should receive invoice notifications. All three appear on every invoice.
- Billing cycle: choose yearly or monthly billing. Monthly billing carries a 20 % surcharge — the wizard shows the exact amount.
- Review: a summary shows the packages, price per period, the pro rata amount for the current period, and the full price of the next period. Clicking Finish places a binding order — you'll be billed according to the rhythm and partner pathway you chose.
If you've already completed a paid checkout once for this tenant, every subsequent Add Package click pre-fills the partner, billing rhythm, address, VAT ID and invoice email from the existing subscription and skips straight to the Review screen. You confirm the cost overview and you're done — no need to re-enter the same data.
After activation
AutoFlow is now active for this company. You can:
- Open AutoFlow Flows from the role centre to create your first flow.
- Open mse365 Subscription Management to review the active packages, add additional packages, upgrade to a higher tier, or update the primary contact via Update Contact.
- Use Edit Billing Info in the same page to update the invoice header (company address, VAT ID, invoice recipient email). Changes apply to every active subscription on this tenant.
- If you received a voucher for additional free flows or packages, continue with Redeem a voucher code.
Billing rhythm (monthly/annual) and partner assignment are fixed at the time of the first paid booking. To change either, contact backoffice@mse365.de — these changes are applied manually so the contract paperwork stays in sync.
If you want to use AutoFlow in further companies of the same tenant, repeat the activation from Step 2 in each company. After the first production activation is complete, the wizard in additional companies finishes instantly.
